Management Information Systems: The Major Qualifying Project (MQP) for MIS Majors
In keeping with WPI's focus on project based learning, the MQP forms an integral part of the MIS curriculum. The MQP is normally performed for a real business, and allows the student to apply the skills, methods, and knowledge obtained in their course work to the solution of a real business problem in the MIS area. Typical MQPs for MIS majors include:
- B2B E-commerce applications
- B2C E-commerce applications
- design, development and networking of organizational database systems
- decision support systems
Clients for MQPs have been companies of all sizes, in industries such as manufacturing, consulting, finance, the public sector, and university departments. Example of previous MQPs include:
- Wireless Networking on Shop Floor (General Electric)
- Evaluation and Application of Network Management Tools in a Large Distributed Computing Environment (Fidelity Investments)
- Platform Migration: Text Files to Oracle Using Java (Teradyne Corporation)
- Process Management Measurement System (Allmerica Financial)
- Windows Performance Monitor (Stratus Computer)
- raphic Modelling of Data Warehouse Metadata (Fleet Bank)
