GQP Research Evaluates Massachusetts Charter School SPED and LEP
Using data provided by the Massachusetts Department of Education,
Graduate Qualifying Project research recently completed by WPI MBA candidates
Julie Bethke, Brian Harvie and Paul Mazur, shows that Massachusetts Charter
Schools enroll a statistically smaller percentage of Special Education and
Limited English Proficient students than their sending districts.
The idea for the study was proposed by the Superintendents of Hudson and
Worcester Public Schools; however, the scope of the study was ultimately
defined by the students and Professor Erwin Danneels. The GQP constitutes a
degree requirement and, as such, the independent study is owned jointly by
the students and WPI.
