MBA
You need to recognize opportunities and deal with the challenges of managing in today's technology-oriented environment. You need to transform information into useable knowledge to make real business decisions. You need an MBA program that teaches you to think several steps ahead.
The WPI curriculum merges theory and practice. It's progressive, transformative, and shaped by the new economy. Understanding management principles within the technological environment is at the core of everything we teach and all of our research. Our faculty bring a wealth of academic and professional experience to the classroom, while our students come with diverse backgrounds and a wide range of knowledge. It's a unique learning environment that gives WPI MBA students an edge in a fast-changing world. Our graduates aren't just studying the future of business-they're defining it.
Program Features
At the center of this 49-credit hour program is a curriculum foundation in fundamental business disciplines, a core that integrates these principles, and the freedom to choose electives that further your own goals in the management of technology. Every course in the MBA program is taught from a technological perspective.
In keeping with our history as a technological university, WPI offers MBA specialization areas that allow students to focus in the most challenging areas of business today. By choosing sets of electives to round out their foundation and core courses, MBA students can concentrate in the following areas:
In addition to these specialization areas, MBA students are free to choose from over 100 graduate electives each semester from other departments. It is possible, for example, to include courses from Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or many other departments, if students feel such courses would contribute to their goals. Thesis and directed study options are also available for students to pursue research interests with faculty members.
Learning is a hands-on experience at WPI. That's why all MBA students undertake a Graduate Qualifying Project (GQP), where students analyze real problems for real organizations, and come up with practical solutions that make a real difference. Decision-making impacts many different business areas; the GQP gives students an opportunity to use all the skills developed throughout their MBA program.
Our applications approach isn't limited to the classroom, either. All MBA students are able to undertake corporate internships, and to take advantage of WPI's Career Development Center. There are many opportunities for students to explore a variety of career paths, or to develop skills to take them to the next level of their careers.
Options
MBA students can take their entire program at either the Worcester campus, or through our innovative Advanced Distance Learning Network (ADLN), taking MBA courses in a web-based environment. You aren't restricted to one learning environment, either. You can take some courses in Worcester, some on-line – you choose how the courses fit into your life. Learn more about the online MBA...
The Bottom Line
MBA students soon learn how their studies at WPI pay off. On average, students see a 63% increase in their salaries from the time they matriculate to the time they graduate.
